Today, Power BI officially switches from ‘Preview’ to ‘General Availability’ and with that a whole host of enhanced new features and developments has been unleashed.

To bring everyone up to speed, Power BI is a collection of online services and features that enables organisations to find and visualise data, share discoveries and collaborate in intuitive new ways. Until now, Power BI has been available as ‘Public Preview’ so it could be properly put through its paces and feedback given to those behind the software for refinement, all the while new features were added regularly.

Now, this new experience centres around three core elements; dashboards, reports and datasets and is available on PowerBI.com and really empowers the user with the opportunity to visualise data and collaborate intuitively. What was also Power BI Designer (the product in preview mode), is now known as Power BI Desktop; a powerful report authoring tool that allows for data to be turned into high quality visuals, making reports and presentations far more engaging and easier to analyse.

The focus of the developments and enhancements of Power BI is on being able to allow users to quickly create dashboards, share reports and directly connect to all the data that is vital to an organisation. This will ensure that providing these key features are utilised, key decision makers will stay informed, spot trends in real-time and monitor the success rate of marketing campaigns. For organisations that rely heavily on data, Power BI is a must-have tool.
