Microsoft Sway

One of Microsoft’s newest app releases, Sway is a great new presentation tool available within the Microsoft Office stack that if you haven’t yet discovered, you need to!

So why do you need it?

The first thing to note about Sway, is that it takes no technical knowledge or coding skills to create the creative content and to share it; this app is incredibly intuitive and allows presentations & other types of communication such as newsletters to be knocked up in minutes.

Available across a number of devices, this app supports mobile working which is great if you have a last minute idea to present in the Monday meeting on your way into the office, or to share across Skype (for Business) enabling a much livelier and engaging delivery for your colleagues.

Sway presentations can be shared across social media, embedded into a web page or shared with your colleagues via your organisations’ internal channels such as SharePoint or Yammer. Worried about others being able to see internal only information? Don’t worry, you can lock your presentation down to your organisation only and restrict who sees it.

How does it work?

Once you have opened the app and clicked ‘get started’ to begin a new document, to create the structure of your presentation, click on ‘cards’ within the top navigation bar. You can drag & drop these into the body of your project, such as headings, images, text and even video.

Text heavy presentations and newsletters won’t capture your audience’s attention, so using the ‘insert’ function at the top, you can either import images directly from your own media collection on your device, or you can search the web within the app & simply drag across your selection into the presentation to insert.

The ‘design’ function allows you to select a theme for your presentation or newsletter; ‘navigation’ enables you to set how you would like your audience to move through it such as to scroll up/down or across; and to view your project before sharing, click ‘preview’ on the top right hand side. It really couldn’t be simpler!
